Wandelbots and Vathos Announce Technology Partnership
With Wandelbots NOVA, Wandelbots is developing a software platform that enables companies to centrally develop, orchestrate, and operate robots, production cells, and automation solutions. The platform abstracts away the underlying hardware, making it possible to develop, simulate, and deploy robotic applications on the shop floor more quickly.
Vathos’ robot vision software is the first image-processing solution for camera-guided robotics that provides Wandelbots NOVA users with modern, AI-based 3D object and position recognition through a simple interface. This enables Wandelbots’ customers to integrate a wide range of pick-and-place solutions for production and logistics into their automation systems. Simple machine loading, challenging bin-picking applications, and complex assembly processes can all be implemented reliably and with minimal effort on Wandelbots NOVA using Vathos’ machine vision software.
This combination opens up entirely new use cases for Wandelbots and Vathos customers. While Wandelbots NOVA users can leverage advanced object and position recognition with robust 3D sensors, NOVA’s global path-planning simulation supports the implementation of even highly complex robotic handling tasks. This allows for safe collision detection simulation, even in confined spaces, as well as the removal of bulk material from deep mesh boxes (bin picking). Both software solutions adopt a hardware-agnostic approach, enabling companies to use robots and 3D cameras from different manufacturers and swap them out as needed without having to redevelop their applications.
René Schiller, Product and Technology Lead at Wandelbots: “With Vathos, we are expanding the Wandelbots NOVA ecosystem with powerful AI-based perception. Many industrial applications, particularly in unstructured environments, require camera-guided robotics to automate processes reliably. By integrating Vathos’ machine vision software, our customers can now implement such applications on Wandelbots NOVA significantly faster and operate them productively. This adds another important building block for scalable Physical AI on the shop floor.”
CEO Nicolas March of Vathos: “The integration into Wandelbots NOVA opens up entirely new possibilities for our customers. Simulation and path planning, combined with our AI-based object and position detection, make even complex assembly applications automatable with robots—in a future-proof way, with less effort and high process reliability. At the same time, Wandelbots and Vathos share a commitment to hardware independence. Users are free to choose which robot or 3D camera to use in their solution. We particularly appreciate that the modern architectural concepts of Wandelbots and Vathos are closely aligned. Thanks to this, we were able to integrate Vathos into NOVA within just a few days together with the highly motivated Wandelbots team—and, as a bonus, develop an impressive showcase for the Hannover Messe. This lays the foundation for jointly developing further solutions in the future.”
